Over $1.2 Million in Penalties Proposed by OSHA for Workplace Safety Violations

After more than 500 inspections since 2017 by the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the state of Ohio’s OSHA programs at Family Dollar and Dollar Tree and over 300 violations, OSHA has proposed penalties of $1,233,364.

OSHA has stated that their inspections found problems with exit routes, fire extinguishers, and electrical panels that were dangerously obstructed or blocked. They also found unsafe walking-working surfaces and unstable stacks of merchandise.

The penalties were proposed after OSHA inspected two (2) Columbus, Ohio locations, responding to employee complaints of unsafe conditions and reported water leaking through the ceiling, causing wet floors and ceiling tiles on the floor.

A Fortune 500 company, Dollar Tree has been a leading operator of discount variety stores in North America for more than 30 years. In 2021, the company reported a gross profit of $7.7 billion.
