It’s hard to imagine not needing a password for our computers, phones, and tech devices — but the Big Three — Apple, Google, and Microsoft are all hard at work on creating a variety of passwordless schemes that will transform sign-in standards as early as next year.
Passwordless sign-ins across iOS, Android, Chrome, macOS, Safari, Windows, and Edge will be replaced with a FIDO credential or passkey to unlock your device and access all of your online accounts.
The new passkey scheme will be more secure than a simple password because it’s protected with powerful cryptography and only shown to your online account when you unlock your device.
