Manufacturing Machinery results to be used to develop free software tool for manufacturers
Purpose:
Manufacturers have reported (NIST AMS 100-18) significant savings as a result of investing in improved maintenance, including 35%-45% reductions in downtime and 65%-95% reductions in defects. These results, however, do not tell the whole cost/benefit story.
Who is asking and why:The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) developed a strong program in Predictive Maintenance Technologies. A related effort is the study of the costs and benefits of manufacturing firms advancing their maintenance techniques. NIST needs present maintenance costs from manufacturers to better understand potential opportunities for Predictive Maintenance projects and develop a useful tool for manufacturers.
